It’s Okay To Not Be Okay
Targeting Global Goal #3: Good Health & Well-Being
UN SDG Goal #3: Good Health & Well-being
Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Goal #3: UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 focuses on ensuring good health and well-being for all individuals, and it holds particular significance for student-athletes concerning their mental health. Student-athletes face unique challenges as they juggle academic pressures alongside rigorous training and competition schedules, which can easily take a toll on their mental well-being.
Goal 3 seeks to foster awareness about mental health issues and encourages the provision of support systems and resources for student-athletes. By prioritizing mental health, educational institutions can create an environment that promotes overall well-being, helps athletes manage stress and anxiety, and provides them with the tools necessary to succeed academically and athletically. When student athletes' mental health is effectively addressed, they are more likely to thrive and achieve their full potential on and off the field.
So what did we do?
Our strategy to take on this major issue in our community and world today is to spread as much awareness as possible. Parents, coaches, friends, and student-athletes often don’t know what signs to look for when dealing with these issues. Many community members also don’t realize how big of an issue it is.
So start by reading our blog posts & listening to our podcast episodes! Hear what Anna, a competitive diver, has to say about these issues & topics.
The Story
Hi! Anna here. You might be wondering why we decided to start this initiative. I’ve been a competitive diver for 7 years now and have faced many challenges throughout my diving journey. However, these challenges and issues I face often go unspoken about- like anxiety, burnout, mental blocks, and body image issues. Typically, these challenges are heightened by also having to balance schoolwork and being a teenager on top of it.
Now, you may not know this, but diving is not only physically draining but the sport is also extremely mentally challenging. You have the pressure of your coaches & trainers not to mention your own expectations for yourself weighing on you but you also have to constantly fight the fear of hitting the board or landing in the water wrong which can cause injuries that are detrimental to your season.
Let’s hear what other athletes have to say about these topics, issues, and everything in between.
